today i have the privilege of introducing FHC readers
to Suzanne Woods Fisher ,
author of Amish Values for Your Family ~
In Amish Values for Your Family, bestselling author Suzanne Woods Fisher shows how you can adopt the wisdom of the Amish when it comes to family matters. In this inspiring and practical book readers will find charming true stories interlaced with solid, biblical advice about parenting, marriage, and all aspects of family life. As readers get an intimate glimpse into the everyday lives of real Amish families, they will learn to prioritize what's truly important, simplify decision-making, slow down as a family, safeguard time together, and let go when the time comes. |
Suzanne's blog book tour is about mid-point with today's stops
and isn't about to let up yet!
besides an introduction to Suzanne, this book, plus the wisdom of the Amish,
she is having a Kindle giveaway + an
autographed poster by celebrated Amish photographer Bill Coleman
more on that will follow below...
Suzanne has a great admiration for the Plain people and
believes they provide wonderful examples to the world.
In both her fiction and non-fiction books, she has an underlying theme:
You don't have to "go Amish" to incorporate many of their principles--
simplicity, living with less, appreciating nature, forgiving others more readily--
into your life.
while we don't have to 'go Amish', i found several stories portrayed in
'Amish Values for Your Family'
that resonate with me personally.
a reflective and contemplative lifestyle deeply connected to the land
is portrayed in appreciation for and care of nature.
taking time out to recognize God's world and our part in it
rather than bowing to the demands of lesser callings of our day to day lives.
how we could benefit from that recognition!
the Amish farmer taking time out of his day's responsibilities to
notice a rare bird from above the Arctic Circle, homing in his log pile,
while enroute to Africa -
the farmer sharing his discovery;
then providing the welcome for 581 people from 6 states
to have their opportunity to experience this rare bird first hand.
one family's winter visit to relatives in Canada
who chose to bundle up and head outdoors onto the frozen lake
sharing the awe and wonder of myriad stars eclipsed by the dance of northern lights!
"It was the single most spectacular experience of my entire life. I felt as though my whole life
was spent in preparation of this moment...I'll never, ever forget it."
this intentionality of living in sync with the rhythm of God's world
is one we would do well to appropriate for our own.
the appreciation for beauty; creation; living 'green' as a normalcy~
being keepers of this garden for which we've been graced by God.
much to learn and actively incorporate into our living...

thanks girls!
so pleased to have your chat and visits today '')
lovely to meet you Diane ! and glad you like FHC ~
This book sounds like it was written for me. I find the Amish life fascinating and have always wanted to know more about their plain ways. On another note, I love your site! I found it through the Austenesque Extravaganza, and I hope to return again and again.
Sharon--What a wonderful write-up of Amish Values! I loved the points your brought out about how the Amish appreciate nature. That doesn't have to be an Amish thing! Not at all. Nature is God's gift to all of us. (But I have met some Amish who seem to pay closer attention!) Love your blog, Sharon. Thanks for being a part of the blog tour! Warmly, Suzanne
