Friday Five from Rev Gal Blog Pals ~

here's today's Friday Five post
from Jan at Rev Gals Blog Pals

"My [Jan] husband and I just returned (on Wednesday night)
from a long road trip up the middle USA to Canada,
going through various national parks,
and on to the Puget Sound of Washington State.
This brought back memories of family road trips with my children and when I was a child,
so the idea of today's Friday Five arose."

"Tell us about five road trips--
in your childhood, in your family, in your recent past, with friends,
and/or hoped-for-places-to-drive-to.
Don't forget the one that stands out as the BEST or as the worst time."

If you play, leave a comment with a link so we can see where you've been...

here's my play ~

1 - the first one to pop into my mind is as an early adolescent travelling with my family of four,
 returning my stepgrandma
to her home in a neighbouring Canadian province.
During our first nite sharing a motel room we were all dismayed
to have our sleep {and dreams} interrupted at the same time,
but each had a different reason for waking.
my father thought he'd heard a semi engine idling,
my mom thought she'd heard a coffee pot percolating,
and i thought i'd heard a sewing machine running.
in fact,
we'd all heard grandma snoring!
loud enough to wake us all ")
each of our personal takes quite revelatory!

2 - another road trip followed my graduation from high school.
the company i worked for decided to strike,
so i took that as a good sign for new adventures!
packed up a vw buggy and headed west...
tenting the first nite,
resort-ing the next couple nites,
we made our way through the Canadian Rockies,
source
gorgeous Okanagan sapphire lakes, cherry and peach orchards.
fabulous.
it turned into an entire summer spent in Vancouver
with all it's sites and 'sounds'!
Queen Elizabeth Park, Pacific ocean, Kitsilano...
ferrying to Victoria, tea at the Empress Hotel,

i'm having an adventure reminiscing as i write!

3 - regular teenage road trips down to the States
for bargain shopping {SHOES!} and car races...

4 - road tripping with the kids to visit my parents
wintering in AZ.

Grand Canyon, Los Angeles, Universal Studios, Disney...
"moh-hm! {s}he's in my spaaace!"
oh yes.  those were the days!
sold us on getting a van!

5 - fave road trip memories are of childhood trips
with my father.
long distance trucking in his semi
hauling new cars from the auto plants
to dealerships across the prairies.
stopping at wayside cafes ordering my fave grilled cheese sandwiches,
Dad's fave smoked salmon at Kakabeka Falls

getting to ride in the brand new cars
{new car smell!}
watching Dad's social connxn of the day - waving at other truckers
[the days before cb radios!]
and picking up gifts to take home... lovely memories~

many thanks Jan for this road trip down memory lane!

any road trips you'd like to journey with us?
feel free to leave your link when you chat ...

Such fun to read of your memories. I loved the story of grandma's snoring and all the dreams that engendered. Being from Bellingham, WA, I really liked reading about your adventures in BC. And I remember driving my dad's bug.
