NEW BEGINNINGS: ROSH HASHANAH 24.9.14 THRU 26.9.14

via

The new year starts on a feminine note. Rosh Hashanah is ushered in by the candle-lighting of Jewish women. The candles precede the prayers in the synagogue and the grand holiday meals. They lend a glow of holiness to the whole year,
as a woman whispers quietly, “Shehecheyanu vekiyemanu vehigianu lizman hazeh”—I am grateful to G‑d for giving me life, and the opportunity to fulfill this mitzvah, which will brighten the entire coming year.

Further thoughts:
Today, I will value the significance of candle-lighting as a time to reflect on my role as a woman.
In stillness I will contemplate the new beginnings
opening before me. . .

L'shannah tova to you, too. And now it's time to eat in the sukkah.
