FRIDAY FIVE: RIGHT NOW 19.6.15

News in our world is overwhelming with politics, tragedy, dissension, and hope,
writes Jan in Texas for Rev Gals Friday Five.
If you prefer for this
Friday Five, you may write about any of the current affairs you are thinking about.  However, I suggest a look at your life at this moment, right Now, TODAY:

~
1. What are you thinking about?
Overwhelmed with issues of worldwide and local injustices.  The need for prioritizing prayer.  For acting in the Light and in light of our faith.
Right Now?  Pretty much focused on Q3 at the moment!
~
2. What book are you reading or have just finished reading?
~

Just finished reading and sitting with the impact of the Hutterites' history
that much of today's news mirrors as learned in the reading.  Such a worthwhile read.  I met author, Linda Maendel, in person at  the book launch after corresponding for a couple years via our blogs and twitter.  Great experience to make the blog connection personal.  Highly recommended reading.
Book Review to come...

~
3. What is your favourite television or radio program?
Saturday's radio program is topping the list.
I am being interviewed by BBC radio 2, London UK, June 20th.  A host that intros emerging music via the mom of a child [adult] involved in indie music.
My son is one of those.

Saturday June 20th, his band, THE PAST, will be debuted and

their single, Higher Than the Sun.
~
~
Pretty cool.  Not just a little nervous, but wouldn't miss it for anything!
Click for an online listen to the show as of Saturday 20th.

Here's the program replay link to have a listen:
Click for My interview beginning at 49.00.  It concludes with
HIGHER THAN THE SUN by THE PAST - yay!!

Fantastic to hear it on air !  Thanks for listening...
and requesting replays of the song at BBC radio 2 if you will
THANKS MUCH !!
click to listen directly to The Past's single, Higher Than the Sun .
~
Your likes on their FB page and twitter  follows @thepastmusic
are much appreciated should you be willing
to show your support.
Definitely a #Joy to have you along!  Thank You!

~
4. What was the best movie you have seen in the past year?

A best for me would be a fav dvd.  Dear Frankie, French Kiss, Persuasion.

~
5. Who do you think of for Father's Day?
Thinking of both my own father and his life impact
and my eldest son.  Young father of two sons - 2 year old and 3 month old.
And all that means for change.  Now and future.
Looking forward to celebrating him with a Sunday BBQ with his lovely family.

~

Hello, all!  It’s the end of January…how did that get by so fast!?

  4. Besides relatives, teachers, and coaches, who gave you the most memorable advice growing up?
  5. Besides junk mail, subscriptions, greeting cards, and stuff you ordered online, what’s something great that came in the mail recently?
*
1 -  Chocolate chips are definitely good in Chocolate Caramel Brownies!

Thankyou to Betty Crocker!

2.  Best day of the year?  Any day I can be with my kids !

3. Making sure I never run out of Lots of Tea {and time to enjoy it!}

neighbours that I'm sure have given plenty!

FRIDAY FIVES: YOUR FAVS? 9.5.14

photo: Tony Alter
Rev Karla brings the Friday Fives today
at Rev Gals Blog

Short and sweet - Join us...

Without further ado, here is our

Friday Five!
*
1.  What is your favourite bird, and why?
I love birds in all their glorious colours and songs.  One fav is the wee canary since childhood -
probably its diminutive size,
cheerful song,
and bright colour -
especially remembering a rosy pink one at the store
where we bought our sunny yellow one.  And such a gift to have one, bless my dear mom who agreed despite
an incredible fear of its flutteringif it escaped the cage!

Missing her ~

First Mother's Day without her...

*
Sharing one amazing peacock

 demonstrating
God's creativity

{since you asked about birds!}
*

*
2.  What are you most forgetful about?
self care
*
3.  Which do you like better, sunrises or sunsets?
I will have to admit to seeing more sunsets ~
one fond mothering memory of regularly calling my kiddos
to the windows for another amazing sky painting!

Sunrises are a more rare opportunity and hold their own beauty.
Sunsets are more dramatic here on the prairies
so I'll go with sunsets ...
*
4.  What ever happened to Grape Soda?
ahhh another fond memory ...
*
5.  Use these words in a sentence:
U-turn sign, bat, mouse, cerulean blue, late.
Have fun!!
*
Enjoying a late morning stroll beneath a cerulean blue sky,
I had just passed the No U-turn sign
when a mouse crossed the sidewalk,
my bat waving neighbour in hot pursuit.

*

Ready?  Have fun!!

FRIDAY 5s: RANDOM TRAVEL 21.3.14

Liking the way Random 5 Friday works so well with
today’s Friday Five from Rev Gal Blog Pal, janintx, who asks us to tell about five different trips we have made in our life due to different reasons, modes of travel, or whatever category you choose!
Here goes . . .
1- A train journey coming to mind which I made as a teenager returning from
Canada's West coast city of Vancouver through the Rocky Mountains,
and the many miles / kilometres across the prairies to my home.
Made with a friend and fellow long distance telephone operator following
a strike that we decided wasn't the way we wanted to spend our summer holidays!
Stunning beauty.   Enthusiastic approach to the trip as adventure.  Joy of friendship.
Great memories!

source
*
2- Another train journey heading the opposite direction, East across the
Canadian shield of rock walls and evergreen forests to the Capital city of Ottawa.
This time with another teenage friend on our way as bridesmaids of a mutual friend
and former classmate's
wedding.
The festivities and rehearsal were great first time events, as was the rail journey,
that resulted in another first - our return home as standby flight passengers!

*
source
*
3- Yes, we both got on a plane for the return trip lasting 2 hours
rather than the 2 days it took to arrive by train!

*

4- Several coach journeys from our prairie home to our home on Prince Edward Island,
come to mind.  Gorgeous routes along the Great Lake shores, well timed for daylight
viewing and no travel time lost as the driver changes kept us moving through the nights.
Over 50 hours later we had reached Fredericton, capital of New Brunswick.
I think it was another 14 hours before we finally crossed the amazing
Confederation Bridge over the Atlantic
to Anne's Island and home for that year.
*

source
*
An incredible first time sight of the red soil of the Island never ceased to amaze me.
And wondering what injury had happened to my son
the first time I saw
the red on his socks !

*

5- Ahh!  now here's a fav trip coming to mind.
I was gifted a trip to England just following the loss of my father one autumn.

source

*
I didn't know a soul there, but made a connection via email with a host family
from a Christian network of hospitality homes.  She responded with a warm welcome to
their garden guest house.  I was intimidated by the enormity of travelling on my own
in a foreign country filled with unknowns.
Expressing my fears to my son one evening, I said the only saving grace was
that the country was the same language as ours!
He replied that 'sometimes you just have to do the hard things, mom!'
Which was exactly what I had to hear.
The blessing was to hear it from my own child's mouth!

*
Very much a part of #Lent pilgrim journeying.  The unknown.  Unexpected.
The requisite?  Being open.  Being willing.  To venture.  To discover...
On pilgrimage knowing Emmanuel [God with us] is with us!

*

So, there are a few of many life travels.
Great prompt today, Jan.  A topic filled with memories and more trips
to describe than you've requested.
Thanks for #6- the 'trip down memory lane'!

FRIDAY 5s: ST. PATRICK's DAY Tae, Music, Lent 14.3.14

It's FRIDAY and I'm St Patrick's Day Partying !

Random 5 Friday at A Rural Journal
which works perfectly with
Today's FRIDAY 5s where Rev Gal Karla says ~
"Hi gals and pals~~ Happy Friday to you!
I don’t have a theme this week,  just a variety of questions
for your writing pleasure
1) How are you?  What’s taking up your mind-heart space these days?
2) It’s St. Patrick’s Day on Monday~~will you celebrate or give a nod to it?
3) My colleague is a voracious morning reader of blogs, online news, articles, etc.
What, besides RevGalBlogPals, do you look at frequently, if not daily?
4) I got nothin’ here.  This is a free for all.  Just tell us something!
5) Use these words in a sentence or two:    map, magazine, sing, baby sloth, knit, penguin, love, weep, mountain, and messenger bag.
Have Fun!

#1 - Photo posting #LENT reflections is taking up mind-heart space
for me these days.  [Plus advocating for elderly experiencing abuses and injustices
by management
of an apartment housing complex. ]

#2 - Absolutely celebrating St Patrick's Day!
Can't grow up in a town called 'Killarney' and NOT celebrate the wearin' o' the Green!

Beginning with morning tae !
Join me?

*

I love St Patrick's inspired creativity in sharing the Gospel using the shamrock to describe Trinity
Father Son Holy Spirit
One
St. Patrick's Prayer
*
May the Power of God preserve us.
May the Wisdom of God instruct us.
May the Hand of God protect us.
May the Way of God direct us.
May the Shield of God defend us.
May the Host of God guard us.
Against the snares of the evil ones.
Against temptations of the world
May Christ be with us!
May Christ be before us!
May Christ be in us,
Christ be over all!
May Thy Salvation, Lord,
Always be ours,
This day, O Lord, and evermore.
Amen.
#3 - Following fellow photo Lent posters Lisa Advent and Jacqui Avery
and the other bloggers linking up here ~
{ And You're Invited to add yours }

plus
A good variety of weekly themed linkups , pinterest and tweets...

#4 - I've begun a weekly blog meme, #SongsonSundays,
for anyone interested in adding their links to fav songs as and when able.

#5 - It's 2 a.m. and my brain is not going to cooperate with wordsmithing !
so I'm leaving you with T WITH THE MAGGIES to soundtrack your day
[Moya Brennan lady in green and elder sister to Enya]
and an IRISH BLESSING in honour of St Patrick's Day, ok?

BE BLESSED !

FRIDAY FIVES:FAVS + LENT RESOURCES 28.2.14

source
*
Deb at Rev Gals Blog says she has been
"busy writing “professional” papers, where it is required that staid, measured prose be properly footnoted, annotated and credited. I am tired of living there!"
I so remember that part of my own journey [and feeling the same response!]
However, her "creative brain is somewhere in the land of strange to illogical."
She invites us to join in her creative flight of thought and tell :
*
1. A colour that you enjoy (and where you find it)
A particular periwinkle shade I adore !
*

Found in benjamin moore paints once upon a time.
*
 {I used it liberally in our PEI home and rejoiced every day I lived in it !!}
Grateful forever for God creating in colour!
I Love the impact colour has on us and revel in having choices . . .
*
2. A food or drink you have discovered recently that is just da bomb!
just click and the recipe is yours too !
*
3. A simile for tiredness

tired as my sweet wee grandson after a busy afternoon
[probably my son and DIL too!]
*
4. A random picture from your phone, camera or [computer for me]
source

beauty in the reminder . . .
*
5. Your least favourite bill: car mechanic, dentist or plumber?
Dentist.  It's like paying for pain !
*
BONUS: If you are going to have a Lenten practice or discipline, what is it?
If you have a book or on-line resource, be sure to share it!

Lenten practice?  Seriously considering removing myself to the desert !
Would be a great idea to leave the icy blasts and heaps of snow behind. . .
Time to focus on a Lenten journey me thinks !
*
Following through on my Word for 2014 being 'intentional',
I've begun PILGRIM PRINCIPLES by Lacy Clark Ellman,
a 7 week 'journey with intention in everyday life' as the byline reads
Great so far.  I'll be well into it for the 6 weeks of Lent beginning next week.
