MONDAY READING + READATHON WRAPUP [ BOUT OF BOOKS 12 ] 12.1.15

*
Already, another Monday Reading post and definitely needed to
wrap up my Bout of Books 12 Readathon list.
A fantastic week of reading - covered several 2015 Challenges in my selections -
and why?
Because the weather is so cold!
How cold you might be wondering...?
On Thursday, we actually were colder than Mars!
and tonight is a weather warning for an Arctic ridge bearing down on us
with -30 degree temps.  Add a windchill and, No, Not heading outdoors!
I'll be grabbing another cuppa and book!!
*

My Challenge Wrap up ?

I did Lots of Challenge participation - great options and visual creativeness -
I chose 2 mystery sleuths for a book Couples Challenge HERE ,
posted my Historical Fiction Recommendations HERE ,
posted a photo challenge Here that got the attention and response of the author,
Vanessa Greene, from the Uk, along with an abbreviated Synopsis of her book HERE
and a FuN Book Quote Here
*

My Total?  9 Books Read:

1. A Lady Most Lovely by Jennifer Delamere
2. The Seafront Tea Rooms by Vanessa Greene
3. The Promise Keeper by Lisa Norato
4.  Manx Gold by Agatha Christie
5. While the Light Lasts by Agatha Christie

[a Publisher's Weekly 2014 Best Book]
7. The Pilgrim Spirit by Andrea Skevington
8.   Barcelona Calling by Jane Kirkpatrick
9. Be My Companion by M Jean Stairs

*
And I'm happy with that for sure.  My reading leap into the New Year.
I made some library hold requests online today.  Books I want that will specifically
coincide with challenges,
which will be great to pick up once the weather breaks a wee bit as anticipated.
*

Up Next ?

Thinking I'll begin a timely read from Jamie Carie
1880s Alaska. When kind Noah Wesley saves Elizabeth's life during a violent blizzard, she won't tell him why she's chasing her dream
through a pounding storm.
*
Sound appropriate?  How is it where you are?
Hunkered under the blankets?
I know Sheila's not, but some others might be...
Hoping you have a great week of reading some favs!

IT'S MONDAY! ARE YOU READING? 23.6.14

I've needed to take some time for intentional self-care -
incredible amount of rainy days driving my health to extremes.
Hoping and praying for all that to settle and I can
be 'myself' once again.
{Will 'dry' and 'heat' connect at some point this summer ?!}

Reading at a relaxed pace to keep reading possible...
I'm enjoying the 2nd in the Anne of Green Gables series,
ANNE OF AVONLEA

At sixteen, Anne is grown up...almost. Her gray eyes shine like evening stars, but her red hair is still as peppery as her temper. In the years since she arrived at Green Gables as a freckle-faced orphan, she has earned the love of the people of Avonlea and a reputation for getting into scrapes. But when Anne begins her job as the new schoolteacher, the real test of her character begins. Along with teaching the three Rs, she is learning how complicated life can be when she meddles in someone else's romance, finds two new orphans at Green Gables, and wonders about the strange behaviour of the very handsome Gilbert Blythe. As Anne enters womanhood, her adventures touch the heart and the funny bone.

*
A Post Hypnotic Press audiobook and also, reading

Mark Batterson's amazing
WILD GOOSE CHASE

“Celtic Christians had a name for the Holy Spirit–An Geadh-Glas, or ‘the Wild Goose.’ The name hints at mystery. Much like a wild goose, the Spirit of God cannot be tracked or tamed. An element of danger, an air of unpredictability surround Him. . .I cannot think of a better description of what it’s like to follow the Spirit through life. I think the Celtic Christians were on to something….
Most of us will have no idea where we are going most of the time. And I know that is unsettling. But circumstantial uncertainty also goes by another name: Adventure.” --from the introduction

*
I completed the excellent debut WWI novel from Stacy Henrie
which releases Tuesday, June 24th!
Historical insights I had no idea of that made for intrigue, action and emotional engagement that recommends this novel.
*
With her brothers away fighting the Great War overseas, Livy Campbell desperately wants to help her family. Her chance comes when she meets a handsome stranger who lands her a job as a teacher in a place far from her parents' farm. But the war casts a long shadow over the German-American town that Livy now calls home—and the darkness will test everything she thought she knew about family and love . . .

More than anything, Friedrick Wagner wants to be part of his adopted country's struggle for peace. But when the bitter animosity between Germans and Americans soon turns citizens against newcomers, friend against friend, he will do whatever it takes to protect Livy from the hysteria that grips their town. As tragedy—and dark secrets from the past—threaten their future, Friedrick and Livy have one chance to stand up for what's right . . . and one chance to fight for their love.

{OF LOVE AND WAR #1 of series}
*
Not my usual ambitious reading self!  Life takes its own turns.
 At the moment it's
ensuring intentional choices for my best health and
being mindful of what's essential.
*
Hoping your week's reading is all you're hoping for!

I also want to announce the upcoming August reading feature

so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.
• Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up?  Share it with us!
• Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books — let’s hear it, then!

IT'S MONDAY! WHAT ARE YOU READING? 28.4.14

Welcome to another Monday at FHC!
After a 24 hr stretch of Dewey's Readathon on Saturday
I had a fair amount of sleeping to catch up on.
I had tackled 375 pgs of THE OUTCAST for my own reading
[as opposed to reading for review]
my usual tendency to catch up on reading,
so it really was a reading break for me.
A well organized readathon with over 800+ readers
and a lot of great mini challenges throughout to inspire creativity
keeping us alert and awake!
My results and challenges HERE - my participation HERE
*
My reading completions this week included Canadian author, Emily T Weirenga's heart touching debut novel,
A PROMISE IN PIECES -
#17 in Quilts of Love series
FHC book tour stop here on May 1

*
Quilts tell stories of love and loss, hope and faith, tradition and new beginnings.  The Quilts of Love series focuses on the women who quilted all of these things into their family history. Featuring contemporary and historical romances as well as women's fiction and the occasional light mystery, you will be drawn into the endearing characters of this series and be touched by their stories.es focuses on the women who quilted all of these things into their family history. *
My Saturday was spent with this amazing novel  and so not disappointed!  Jolina Petersheim writes authentic characters and a story that captivated emotions and intellect.  Definitely pleased to add this to my 'read' list.

Raised in an Old Order Mennonite community, Rachel is a strong-willed single woman, content living apart from mainstream society until whispers stir the moment her belly swells with new life.
When the life of Rachel’s baby is at stake, however, choices must be made that will bring the darkness to light, forever changing the lives of those who call Copper Creek home.
*
I completed reading last week + posted my review of Tamera Alexander's epic new release, A BEAUTY SO RARE, last evening.
Just click title to read my thoughts and the publisher's synopsis.  Book 2 in the Belmont Mansion series, definitely stand alone, so no worries if you, like me, missed the first.
Though now I will be chasing
A LASTING IMPRESSION down asap!
*

*
What's up for this week?
Posting a couple of reviews and,
I always cringe to name a title, because
life can change that intention so quickly, but I do hope to get into SINCERELY YOURS.

Historical novellas from four outstanding storytellers, four young women find their lives altered after each receives a letter that sets her on a new path toward a changed life--and perhaps lifelong love.

*
I'm anticipating the new release of the amazing Jessica Dotta's
2nd in the Price of Privilege series, MARK OF DISTINCTION.

I'm also anticipating it in my postbox!
Totally grateful to have won a copy from the author's Release Party invitation to post about it!  Thank you, Jessica !
*
London is said to be the glittering jewel of society, a world unto itself—but to Julia Elliston it is a city of shadows. Her life is swiftly dissolving into scandal. And in Victorian society, even a whisper of scandal—substantiated or not—can be the death of a young woman’s reputation.

*
Another anticipated package is a win from
the author, Katie Ganshert ~ Thank you!
*
Broken Kind of Beautiful
by Katie Ganshert
Fashion is a fickle industry, a frightening fact for twenty-four-year-old model Ivy Clark. Ten years in and she's learned a sacred truth -- appearance is everything. Nobody cares about her broken past as long as she looks beautiful for the camera.

*
*
contemporary audiobook for some listening pleasure ahead
by Rita award winning author

and oh the paper and kindle reads lined up...

Including Michelle DeRusha's April 15th release:
*
*
A bit of an Irish teaser for St Patrick's Day ~
"Generally wakes and funerals in my Irish Catholic family were an excuse for a party. A death offered an opportunity to break out the booze and plug in the Crock-Pot of meatballs... sure it felt a little weird to enjoy
seconds of the baked ziti while Uncle Jack was barely in the ground, the AstroTurf tucked around the edges of the muddy hole, but I got used to the order of events: mourn and bury; drink and eat..."
Just one of many of Michelle's slices of life
served with a side of  humour!

AND...

Today's Release Day for a HUGE FAV ~
Sibella Giorello's suspense filled mystery thriller

Can NOT wait to read this one!
