TRAVEL THE WORLD IN BOOKS with PROPS + BOOKMARKS: MINI CHALLENGE 29.10.15

Travel the World in BOoks Readathon
~

Mini-Challenge +
Discussion for today:
*  Do you judge a book by it’s cover? How do you mark your spot? Are you an ereader or paper book reader? Feature your favourite world lit covers and bookmarks

I am one reader who chooses and has been fooled by great book covers
too many times to count!
I favour hardcover books, paper otherwise, although when travelling there's nothing
easier than taking along the ereader!  Collections and variety, along with voice feature,
it is a great option.
Marking my spot is often grabbing whatever is at hand - receipt, envelope, notepaper -
though I do love matching bookmarks to covers.  I have been creating my own
with good success for this year's craft season and enjoy the effect of using these:
~
 ~
And for the Mini Challenge?
Heather's challenge is to make a photograph that captures the setting of the book.
And Isi's Challenge is to couple the perfect book and bookmark.
My creative Canadian book photo capturing the country
along with bookmark featuring Manitoba, the short stories' location
and a warm blanket for some chilly winter story settings ! ...

~
~
Host Isi has posted her Book and Bookmark Couple Challenge HERE
and  Heather has posted some inspiring examples and other readathoners
jumping in with more HERE.  The challenge is open and ongoing -
why not inspire us with your creative book prop shots?

TRAVEL THE WORLD IN BOOKS READATHON: FRIDAY FINDS 23.10.15

~
I'm glad to have my schedule freed up to include some reading for this intentional
World Travel opportunity with hosts above.
I've so enjoyed discovering new to me books set in untravelled locations.
Here's where I've been this first week.  A gorgeous tea plantation in Ceylon via
THE TEA PLANTER's WIFE by Dinah Jefferies.
An English village in Cornwall via WJ Burley's suspense of WYCLIFFE and The LAST RITES.
Solving a missing person's disappearance in Llanfair in the rugged terrain of Wales, thanks to
Rhys Bowen's EVAN BLESSED of her Evan Evans series.
My first autumn spent boating the canals of Venice with Commissaire Brunetti
of Donna Leon's series in THE GOLDEN EGG.
Vicariously ambling avenues and cafes with Genevieve as she re-discovers Paris France in
THE PARIS KEY as Xe Sands tells me Juliet Blackwell's story.
Plus, several more of Agatha Christie's Tommy and Tuppence short stories of London
in PARTNERS IN CRIME.
*
Find each of these locations on my #TraveltheWorldinBooks Readathon Map.
*
North and South America reading discussion for today brings one of this year's reads to mind.
An enovella by Adria J Cimino, I loved this descriptive story.
~
Dramatic action, adventure, and mystery for one young man, Rafael. As he lingers in indecision regarding his future, the decision seems to be made on his behalf by the outcome of his family's actions one dark night in the Colombian jungle. Thus begins his unwanted journey of discovery to Paris and the unfolding of secrets untold..

Succinctly written, Ms Cimino grabbed and held on to my attention throughout. Well described characters had palpable personality and easily envisaged locations. A pleasure to read.

~
Perhaps you'll consider adding it to your
#TraveltheWorldinBooks Readathon TBR shelf.
A North American story on my TBR for this Readathon is Elizabeth Camden's AGAINST THE TIDE pictured below.  It's highly recommended and being an author I favour, a must read!
Here's  my Complete Travel the World Reading List for 2015
[ includes countries , novels, and authors]

*
I look forward to reading your suggestions linked HERE ...
Add your participation in this ongoing Readathon
til October 31st.
~*~
More world wide reading ahead ... Belgium, Austria, Germany,
N America, England, and one addition I found just for Lucy - Iceland [The TRICKING OF FREYA] :)

WEEKEND READ-A-THONS: DEWEY'S + TRAVEL THE WORLD IN BOOKS 16.10.15

Waking to a gorgeous sunrise on a chilly Friday morning.
Time to post my preparation for tomorrow's annual Fall 24 hr Dewey's Readathon.
Reading begins worldwide at 7 a.m. cdt - time conversions available at the main blog link.
*
*
I've been scavenging my book shelves for shorter novels and some light short stories .
These provide a sense of accomplishment with each completion,
keeping me from becoming overwhelmed in the middle of the day!
~
Drawing from Agatha Christie's PARTNERS IN CRIME
and the COMPLETE HERCULE POIROT
~*~
French Canadian author, Gabrielle Roy's
STREET OF RICHES
~
~
Deb Macomber's double short story books
~
~
Joanne Fluke's APPLE TURNOVER MURDER [with recipes!]
~
~
Some of my selection possibilities...  They also keep adding to my Oct mystery reading tally
 for the RIP X Challenge.
More reading options via ereader, I may be pursuing those once I get into the actual reading.
Nothing like an entire day to focus on new reading choices !
I'll update my current reading once the day begins.
~
Join fellow Dewey ReadaThon readers HERE and plan your own book retreat for the day -
Saturday Oct 17th.
~*~
Next, because it seems obvious I hate to be reading unchallenged,
Travel the World in Books  Readathon beginning at midnight Oct 18th
along with Dewey's which continues til 6.55 a.m. cdt .
~
*
I am already a participant in the ongoing Travel the World Challenge
[my reading travel titles posted HERE with Maps]
and  I'm happy to add more worldwide book travel via this annual Readathon.
I've created a Travel the World in Books shelf at goodreads for tracking book travels.
My travels began by exploring my bookshelves to discover unread books in various world locales.
Here's what I've come up with:
~
~
[ France Audio listen via hoopla ]
~
~
France, Wales
~
 Russia, Spain, Egypt

Current Readathon READING LIST ~

*
Travel the World in Books 2015
The “rules” are simply thisYOU choose your own adventure!
[Thanks for the FuN, Tanya!]
Your goals, but you can change them any time.

1. Determine length of time you will participate in the challenge.
One month, An entire season, a year [finished up this year] or 5 years?
Jan 1 2015 begin a new adventure!

2.
 Determine
how many countries you would like to read about during your adventure. What criteria are you using to determine the number of countries you read about (ex. book setting, author, background or both)?

{I also like to include characters as a location criteria}
3.
How will you
track the countries you visited in books? You could create a map in Google Maps, track on your blog or on Goodreads
{I have a Goodreads list created for 2014 of this challenge and

will add 2015 on this blog post}
4. Determine your book list or genre if you like. Will you be listing specific books you would like to read? Do you aim to read fiction, nonfiction or a mixture of both?  {I read a mix and don't plan ahead}

5. Link up your posts. **Linkies are available for sign up/goals, wrap up, and a linky for each continent for you to add your book reviews .

6. Please follow each of Tanya's 3 hosts by at least one social media or bloglovin, RSS, GFC so you can keep informed regarding this challenge.
