WW TOP TEN AUTHORS & TIMELESS TOUR 13.5.15

May 12: Ten Authors I  Want To Meet
theme for today's Top Ten Tuesday at the host blog
 The Broke and the Bookish
A perfect theme for this week's author tour.

The Timeless Tour for two Canadian authors is underway.
With a local stop, I was able to attend and meet both
Genevieve Graham and Susanna Kearsley.

Genevieve signing her newest, TIDES OF HONOUR,
Susanna signing A DESPERATE FORTUNE.
A bit blurry [sorry] both authors read excerpts from their novels
Susanna graciously signed The ROSE GARDEN for me
and a gracious Genevieve took photo timeouts for this fan as well
A wonderful evening of book and writing talk on the process and characters -
personal glimpses into themselves and their writing.
Definitely more than a few Top Ten author moments!.

A - Z AUTHORS - READING CHALLENGE 2015

2015-authors-banner

My Participation ~

A goodreads A-Z Authors Shelf will likely form my tracking for this Challenge
[possibly below for a 2nd option at hand]
*
I've been thinking of authors of books I intend on including in 2015 reading,
needing a wee bit of help for the alphabet to be covered!  Any sleuths aware of X and Z authors...?

*
Here are the details/rules:
– The challenge runs from 1 January to 31 December 2015
– Books written by authors with last names from A-Z, collect every letter of the alphabet
– Only last names count, so William Shakespeare would fall under S, not W
– Speaking of Shakespeare, the books you read may fall under any form/genre: prose, poetry, drama; fiction, non-fiction, academic monographs…
– Books don’t have to be “physical” either–ebooks and audiobooks are welcome!
– Crossovers with other challenges and re-reads are also more than welcome!
– You do not need to have a blog or review the books in order to participate–having a list somewhere (such as GoodReads) is fine
– Come December 2015, I’ll be making a post for you to submit your completed challenges. If you finish by 31 Dec 2015, you’ll be in the running for a booktastic prize draw!
How to join:– If you’re a blogger, grab the challenge banner and link back to this post to help spread the word and encourage others to join! Fill out the form there, and include a link to your challenge sign-up post (not to your overall blog).
– If you’re a non-blogger, keep track of your authors list any way you wish (I know quite a few people start up a challenge bookshelf on Goodreads), and use the form below to fill out your details (and perhaps a link to your challenge bookshelf, if you’re setting one up)
.
If you want to follow my blog, I may post special challenge-related announcements throughout the year; alternatively, just check back during December 2015. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a comment.  And that’s it, really!
Happy reading, and all the best with the challenge!  [Samantha-Lin.com hosting]

Enjoying Canada's French Quarter ~ St. Boniface for Paris in July 2012 ~

a month long meme on all things French

Here's the invite from Karen at Book Bath ~
There will be no rules or targets in terms of how much you need to do
or complete in order to be a part of Paris in July
just blog about anything French and you can join in. ..

- Reading a French book - fiction or non-fiction
- Watching a French movie
- Listening to French music
- Cooking French food
- Experiencing French art, architecture or travel
(or remembering travel experiences)

- Or anything else French inspired you can think of...

in light of this Welcome inclusivity,
I am posting some French travel inspiration ~
St. Boniface,
the French quarter of Canada's heart & centre, Winnipeg

St. Bonifacehome to the largest French speaking community
in Western Canada, was f
ounded in 1818
by Bishop Joseph Norbert Provencher
as the first Roman Catholic mission in the west.
This
French-neighborhood is within walking distance
of downtown Winnipeg and The Forks

Source
via the
Esplanade Riel, a pedestrian bridge,
spanning the Red River from St. Boniface to downtown Winnipeg.
Provencher Boulevard runs parallel.

In the heart of Old St. Boniface

La Maison Gabrielle-Royrestored as a museum,
located on Rue Deschambault

which gave name to renowned Canadian author

"Largely autobiographical, it traces the growth and development of a young girl into an accomplished writer. Like much of Roy's fiction, it includes a very autobiographical style and weaves vignettes into a tapestry of the specific time and place. The book covers themes including the social divide between the French Canadian and English Canadian communities in what were the twin cities of St. Boniface and Winnipeg, Manitoba, European immigration to the Canadian prairies, family dynamics and racial integration.

As Rue Deschambault

the novel was first published in the original French by Beauchemin in 1955.
An English translation by Harry L. Binsse, Street of Riches
was published by McClelland and Stewart in 1957." - Source

Numerous other works include short story collections set in Manitoba~
La Petite Poule d’eau
{1950; translated Where Nests the Water Hen}
La Route d’Altamont
{1966; translated The Road Past Altamont}
Un Jardin au bout du monde
{1975; translated Garden in the Wind}
 Ces Enfants de ma vie
{1977; translated Children of My Heart}

You can begin a walking tour of St. Boniface
guided by the words of this
great author.

More famous sites of this historic neighbourhood
include the remains of St. Boniface Cathedrale

College universitaire de Saint-Boniface

St . Boniface City Hall

St. Boniface Museum

Originally built for the Grey Nuns ,
this is the oldest building in Winnipeg
and the
largest oak log structure in North America.
{ courtesy of Factoids published by destinationWinnipeg }

or hike the St. Boniface Trail along the Seine River
"It is an ecological jewel and extends through St. Vital and St. Boniface
with more than 52 km of shoreline,
over 20 publicly accessible parks and 12 hours of paddling.
The St. Boniface Trail is a worthy gateway to the Seine River Greenway...
many large and small turtles, a variety of fish,
the whole spectrum of birds including a healthy king fisher population
and lots of dragonflies and butterflies.
Native flora and fauna are thriving here."

and if you're driving?knowing a few rules of the road will come in handy!

Enjoy the latest edition of the
for more French sites to enrich and inform about
Manitoba's Francophone communities in the City of Winnipeg

St. Boniface, St. Vital, and St. Norbert,
and bilingual communities in the south of the province of
Manitoba, Canada.
