NOT QUITE MONDAY! WHAT ARE YOU READING? 15.8.15

Not quite Monday ~
It's time to update some #AusteninAugust Reading...

~*~
What Have I Read so far?

Contemporary Emma that disappointed in the telling.
I never got to a point of liking Emma, sad to say.
Neither did I find the story interesting.  It took me forever  to
finish, laying it down, taking it back up, trying to decide if I
would even complete the reading of it.
The characters didn't offer appeal or redeem themselves
the further I read.  Sorry to say, though I did finish their stories.
If you've read it, be sure to share your opinion so others
may hear a different view!
Library read for me which was one positive :)
~*~

Pride and Persistence
Jeana Ellsworth's retelling of the PandP famous first proposal.
Sadly, I found repetitious reading for too much of the story.
A couple unique plot twists, but in all, not my fav JAFF to read.
Have you favourite Austenesque to add to recommendations?
Happy to hear and to share with other JAff readers.
~*~
A Jane Austen Daydream
On the other hand, here is JAFF I loved to read.  And from a male pov.
Scott Southard writes a captivating daydream of  Jane's life with
relationships which readers will find familiar yet perspectives and outcomes that are sure to surprise.  In tears and laughter, this one
definitely caught and kept my attention.  The Austens are not revered
in Southard's portrayal, which may not please some, yet they provide the
frame for Jane's solitary pursuits.  Well written.  Engaging.  Worth reading.

~*~

Currently Reading?

I'm quite caught up in the hunt for Jane's unknown missing manuscript!
Mentioned as lost in a letter of Jane's discovered in an old Oxford
bookstore purchase,
Samantha knows her former Oxford studies well and is determined to make
every effort she can to pursue the possibility of finding such a treasure.
You can imagine the intrigue!
I am not too far along, but Syrie James' pacing is quick and you aren't waiting
while anticipation drags on to boring.
At this point, I'm glad I chose this one for an #AinA read.
~*~

Gorgeous photos illustrating the facts of Jane's life,
home and surroundings as I read Kim Wilson's
At Home with Jane Austen.
Easy to pick up and peruse in whatever moments available.
Lovely coffee table size offering full size captures
that bring Jane's world to life.
Mine is from the library - perhaps yours will have a copy as well.
Definitely increasing JA enjoyment !

~*~

Ahead?

I admit I did read a bit of a starter to get my own First Impressions
on this one. Once I got the library notice it had arrived, Yes, couldn't wait!  Another contemporary,
though this one runs a historical Jane storyline alternately.  I was intrigued
with both and am looking forward to getting into it later this week.
As the subtitle calls to me...
A Novel of Old Books,Unexpected Love, and Jane Austen
it's another JA story from a male author, Charlie Lovett.

FRIDAY FINDS: ANTICIPATING JANE [#AUSTENinAUGUST] 31.7.15

My Friday Finds in prep for [Jane] #AusteninAugust
beginning tomorrow.  Anticipaaaation ... !

~

'
In this elegant retelling of Pride and Prejudice, Mary at last learns – with a little help from the man she loves – to question her family's values and overcome her own brand of 'pride and prejudice' in
The Forgotten Sister.    440 pgs

I found this unabridged audio book available online via hoopla
which is quickly becoming a fav reading resource.
One abandoned, one unfinished, these short works show Austen equally at home with romance and social change.
A widowed clergyman with four daughters must needs be in search of a husband or two, in The Watsons, as three badly behaved daughters search for husbands with the help of a recently reunited sister.
In Sanditon, Charlotte Heywood becomes enthralled with a new, commercial seaside resort's scandalous residents.

Looking forward to this male author's writing viewpoint on Jane's own love life in a Jane Austen daydream.Jane Austen spends her days writing and matchmaking in the small countryside village of Steventon, until a ball at Godmersham Park propels her into a new world where she yearns for a romance of her own. But whether her heart will settle on a young lawyer, a clever Reverend, a wealthy childhood friend, or a mysterious stranger is anyone's guess.   412 pgs

Shannon Winslow's new release will be featured here as a Book Tour stop next week along with a Giveaway.  Be sure to sign up for the month long
#AusteninAugust for your opportunity to participate in all the events and bonuses.
What’s Georgiana Darcy’s story? Jane Austen tells us so little in Pride and Prejudice that we’re left to wonder. How did the early loss of her parents shape Miss Darcy’s character? And what about her near-disastrous affair with Mr. Wickham? Is that the true source of her shyness? She adores her brother and his new wife Elizabeth, but will their guiding influence be enough to steer Georgiana clear of new trouble as she comes of age and falls in love again?

Long awaiting this newest mystery in Carrie Bebris Mr and Mrs Darcy series.
Released July 14th, it's on library reserve. I'm hoping for an August arrival.

Suspicion at Sanditon,
a new adventure takes Fitzwilliam and Elizabeth Darcy to Sanditon, the setting and title of Jane Austen’s final work.
In Sanditon, along with their friend Miss Charlotte Heywood, the Darcy's encounter an array of eccentric inhabitants.

Tucked in an uncut page of a two-hundred-year old poetry book is a letter Samantha believes was written by Jane Austen, mentioning with regret, a manuscript that "went missing at Greenbriar in Devonshire." Could there really be an undiscovered Jane Austen novel waiting to be found? Could anyone resist the temptation to go looking for it?
After discovering the unattributed manuscript, Samantha and Anthony are immediately absorbed in the story of Rebecca Stanhope, daughter of a small town rector, who is about to encounter some bittersweet truths about life and love. As they continue to read the newly discovered tale from the past, a new one unfolds in the present--a story that just might change both of their lives forever.   433 pgs
