Friday Five: Artsy Creative Ministry ! 10/5

Today's Friday Five at Rev Gals
is from Rev Pat Raube who is busy with a women's art show.
Loving her creative Friday Five thoughts
as they are such an expression of my own heart!

"It's art, art, art in my life today, because I'm on the organizing committee for an all-women's art show that opens tonight! This means life has been about hanging paintings, arranging sculptures and assemblages, and doing everything we can to make sure we show off the women's work to its best advantage.

Something that has struck me in particular this year is the idea of art as a venue to give voice to the voiceless. But that's certainly not its only function. We have angry art, as political protest. We have joyful art, art that conveys the sheer buzz of being alive.
We have spiritual art, reveling in the sacredness of the body or the earth.
And just about every year, we have some form or another of "biblical" art,
representing or commenting on something in scripture.

This Friday Five, reflect with me upon art
and the role it plays in your life (and ministry!)...

1. Do you have a favorite piece of art in your home?
Was it made by you or someone you love?
Was it a gift or something you decided to purchase?

About 4 years ago I pieced a vertical fabric wallhanging of
teacups - purple florals on black background..
still a fave !

2. What do you think of the art in your place of worship?

Does it enhance the worship experience?

Would you add to it, take away from it, or otherwise change it?

We have banners that change with the church seasons &
I do think they are
gorgeous works of art!
Well done, quality and workmanship.
It definitely adds to the worship experience for me,
considering the original request of God for the temple fabrics,
hangings , right down to the colours to be used !
In light of that, I would add sometimes, take away others &
make it more fluid or rhythmical rather than formal...

3. What public art have you loved-- or hated?

Art rates my dislike when it's placed inappropraitely.

I'm thinking of a gigantic block of what looks like imagined ice

on the gorgeous riverbank entry to our main city park... sad.

4. What piece of art

(famous, infamous, personal, or very, very well known masterpiece)

speaks to your soul?

5. When is the last time you created something beautiful, just for you?

I recently enjoyed creating beauty in the display of my teacups
in a 'new to me' welsh dresser / hutch ~
{same with my books}
Currently about to create a Gratitude Journal
I have joined a blog hop featuring our creations on Oct 26th.
[come on by to check out the results!!]
I've picked up a couple journals to alter creatively
along with bits + baubs from the charity shops~
definitely looking forward to the creating process ..
{therapeutic!} ministry that restores my soul !

If you play, let us know in the comments!

And here's to finger paints, yarn, fabric, flowers, or

whatever tools and materials you make your life beautiful!"

AND ...
Because today is my Birthday! Yes ! Really !
Please help yourself to tea and cake...

Praying you have a GREATLY BLESSED Day !

Happy Birthday! I remembered it was your birthday today because you and my daughter, Jess, have the same birthday. I love the aqua tea cup...so pretty. 'What if you let love all the way in?' What a special quote this is because love is one of the greatest gifts. I hope you received much love on your birthday.

Love the chat and the thoughts about art, for me art is important as I find if I base my journal pages around scripture mediation on the word flows
