Tea Time, Tea Cups, and Tea Talk...

First March Tea Time !

Thank you for visiting ~

I'm grateful to find batteries for my son's camera

and a moment of bright sun in the midst of our continuous

snowfalls to make these photos happen !

Here's one of my no name, charity shop, teatime delights..

no company - no pattern - no markings

other than 'Made in England'
{photo'd on lovely vintage charity shop find linens!}

I love how the black sets off the pastels...
and the fullness of the florals inside the cup !

the saucer also makes a lovely server for dessert on a doily !

A darling cup shape and the handle is exquisite..

Pancake {Shrove} Tuesday, Tea + Lent ! 2.12.13

Shrove Tuesday Pancakes and Tea !

mmmm mmm....

pancake tuesday!

our day of celebration

in preparation for the beginning of Lent

wouldn't be complete without

sharing a fave pancake recipe -

 my father was pancake master with this

and thankfully my son has carried on his talent!

it's a german pancake,

thin, with a softness that allows rolling,

which is exactly what we do

once sprinkled sugar has been added, 

liberally covering the top!

then the platter is popped back into the warm oven

while we wait to serve the completed pancakes !

1 3/4 cups flour

1/2 tsp salt

3 eggs

2 cups milk

combine flour and salt, add eggs and milk. 

whip with whisk until free of lumps,

and a thin batter.

heat your fave frying pan.

{  cast iron pan or low sided pans work well }

when hot, melt butter to coat,

then pour approx 1/4 cup batter into the pan

{ tilting the pan until a thin layer covers the bottom }.

cook on medium high until pancake is set.

flip and brown until golden underneath.

watch carefully so that these don't brown too quickly.

remove to plate,

sprinkle with icing sugar or fine berry sugar.

 rolled and kept warm in the oven,

then served with fruit, preserves, lemon juice or maple syrup.

 table prepared in purple for Lent ..

tea brewed at the  ready!

we might choose to remove from our life ...

what keeps us from developing a deeper relationship

with God ... ?

I know I benefit when I intentionally choose 

to use that extra time gained

to focus an undivided heart on my One True Love.

I want to allow that focus to direct my meditation 

and reflection throughout Lent.

 The growth is amazing,

as Holy Spirit trains me to hear His voice

above the call of distractions

and leads me in paths that follow God's heart.

May we be blessed as we journey this path together...

A path of awe and wonder of God

where we actually #livewonderstruck

to Celebrate Queen Victoria's Birthday !

Queen Victoria 

Alexandrina Victoria
24 May 1819 – 22 January 1901

 was the monarch of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 20 June 1837 until her death. 

From 1 May 1876, she used the additional title of Empress of India.

Victoria was the daughter of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn, the fourth son of King George III. The Duke and Duchess of Kent's only child,
Victoria, was born at 4.15 am on 24 May 1819
at Kensington Palace in London

Both the Duke of Kent and the King died in 1820, and Victoria was raised under close supervision by her German-born mother Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld.
She inherited the throne at the age of 18,
after her father's three elder brothers had all died without surviving legitimate issue. 

Her reign of 63 years and 7 months,
 longer than that of any other British monarch and
the longest of any female monarch in history,
is known as the Victorian era.

displays an abundance of violets. 

Marked

I am entirely excited 

one of these Tea Cup delites is on its way home to me !

~the motif on the back of the cup is different from that on the front 
some with a sweet trio of violets on the interior of the cup. 

Interestingly, 
the main design includes one single white violet amongst the purple ones. 
In the Victorian 'language of flowers' 
the purple violet represented shy modesty 
~the "shrinking violet" or retiring personality~
while the white violet portrayed candor or innocent truthfulness. 
So this little bouquet would convey the message 
"I am too shy to speak openly, 
but my words and feelings are honest and true." 

Hammersley & Co was located in Longton ,
 one of the six towns in Staffordshire known as "The Potteries"
 later becoming Stoke-on-Trent
{ one of my fave places to visit for china searching !} 


Established in the early 1880s as Harvey Adams & Co, 
the name was changed to Hammersley in 1887
and based at Alsager from 1887. 
The backstamp was used until 1932 
when it was altered to include the pottery location "Longton". 
In 1939 Hammersley was acquired by the Spode group 
and the name Hammersley disappeared from the backstamps.

The company was bought by the American Carborundum Co. in 1966.
