LENT WEEK 1 DAY 4 : YOU ARE THE BELOVED OF GOD 26.2.15

Meditations in
Being and Becoming the Beloved
as we walk the path of Lent
with Henri Nouwen
*
*
Conclusion to Becoming the Beloved.

Community is not to be a hideout from life.
It's a calling to go.  To a life given.
Coming closer to the heart of God in ministry.  Serving.
Live aware of our own limitations.   We are a fellowship of the weak.
*
"Once you are in deep communion with the poor, you are able to discover your own poverty, your own weakness, your own brokenness and not be afraid of it."
*
Keep space for hearing God's Voice.
Forming community without possessiveness.  Going out.
Claim your Truth.  You are the Beloved of God.

LENT WEEK 1 DAY 3: COMMUNITY LIVING AS THE BELOVED

Continuing our meditations in
Being and Becoming the Beloved
as we walk the path of Lent
with Henri Nouwen

*

*
2nd part of our journey to Becoming the Beloved.

*
Community.
We live in genuine community when we know we are Beloved.
We may be alone but we are not lonely.
In loneliness we are possessive until we hear we are the Beloved.
When we are rooted in that Love there is possibility for Community.

LENT WEEK 1 Day 2: BEING and BECOMING THE BELOVED by Henri Nouwen 24.2.15

Meditations in Being and Becoming the Beloved
as we walk the path of Lent
with Henri Nouwen
*
*
First of the next 3 sessions of Living as the Beloved of God,
Henri Nouwen explores Christ's model of Communion with God.
In the midst of noise and distraction, busyness around and within us,
we must create that spiritual whitespace where we can hear the Voice
calling us to communion, to relationship, to hear we are Beloved of God.
*
Brief and beautiful meditation that challenges as it inspires a new way of
being in our world.
A call to reclaim what we're meant to be...

LENT SUNDAY 1 : BECOMING THE BELOVED 2 - by HENRI NOUWEN 22.2.15

First Sunday of Lent

we continue meditations with 2nd of Henri Nouwen's
BECOMING THE BELOVED

*

Embrace our brokenness in the Light of being Blessed.
Sharing that blessing in blessing others doesn't diminish our blessing.
Be generous!

“solitude begins with a time and a place for God, and God alone.
If we really believe not only that God exists but also that God is actively present
in our lives-- healing, teaching and guiding-- we need to set aside a time and space
to give God our undivided attention."
[Matt 6:6]

LENT 2: LIFE of the BELOVED by HENRI NOUWEN 19.2.15

Second Day of our Lenten Journey,

I'm sharing brief daily segments of Henri Nouwen's BELOVED.
Thoughtful reflection to inspire and inspirit

part 2  [Lent day 3]

Over the years, I have come to realize that the greatest trap in our life is not success, popularity, or power, but self-rejection...
Self-rejection is the greatest enemy of the spiritual life because it contradicts the sacred voice that calls us the "Beloved." Being the Beloved constitutes the core truth of our existence.”

LENT 1: ASH WEDNESDAY 18.2.15

Ash Wednesday
*
"Lord...Help me to become ...
more attentive to your voice, which calls me to choose the narrow road to life...
The choice for your way has to be made every moment of my life. I have to choose thoughts that are your thoughts, words that are your words, and actions that are your actions. "

Lenten prayer from Henri Nouwen's book THE ROAD TO DAYBREAK
and so , Lent begins with the Light of recognition that we are dust and to dust we will return...

LENT: COMPASSIONATE LEADING - CONTEMPLATIVE MEDITATION 12.4.13

Impacted by Henri Nouwen's meditation for today
and
wanting to share it with you. . .
Lovely revelation and increased understanding
on this much misunderstood topic...  be Blessed!

Saturday April 12, 2014

Mostly we think of people with great authority as higher up, far away,
hard to reach.
But
spiritual authority comes from compassion
and
emerges from deep inner solidarity
with those who are "subject" to authority.

The one who is fully like us, who deeply understands our joys and pains
or hopes and desires,
and who is willing and able to walk with us,
that is the one to whom we gladly give authority
and whose "subjects" we are willing to be
.

It is the compassionate authority that empowers, encourages,
calls forth hidden gifts,
and enables great things to happen.

True spiritual authorities are located in the point of
an upside-down triangle,
supporting and holding into the light everyone they offer
their leadership to
.

If someone is serving me, let him follow me;
wherever I am, my servant will be there too.
My Father will honour anyone who serves me.
John 12.26

Spiritual leadership is the leadership of the Good Shepherd
As Jesus says, good shepherds know their sheep, and their sheep know them (see John 10:14).

*

There must be a true mutuality between shepherds and their sheep.  Good leaders know their own, and their own know them.  Between them is mutual trust, mutual openness, mutual care, and mutual love.  To follow our leaders we cannot be afraid of them, and to lead our followers we need their encouragement and support.

Jesus calls himself the Good Shepherd to show the great intimacy that must exist between leaders and those entrusted to them.
Without such intimacy, leadership easily becomes oppressive.

*
Lenten Thoughts in Response ...

What kind of response do I want to result from my life?
Do I want to be a person who "empowers, encourages, calls forth hidden gifts
and enables great things to happen"?
To live with mutual connection.  Mutual trust, care, respect.
To know and be known.
Who is that?  Who does that?
The compassionate One.
The One Who supports and holds us into The Light.
It is "The One Who is 'fully like us, Who deeply understands our joys and pains, hopes and desires,
and Who is willing and able to walk with us"
That is The One I want- I need to be like.
The One to Whom I gladly give authority - Whose 'subject' I am willing to be.
and Whose Life-giving ways, Whose Light I want to reflect.

*

“The Spirit of Adonai spoke through me,
his word was on my tongue.
 The God of Isra’el spoke;
the Rock of Isra’el said to me,
‘A ruler over people must be upright,
ruling in the fear of God;
like the morning light at sunrise
on a cloudless day
that makes the grass on the earth
sparkle after a rain.’

2 Samuel 23:2-4
