Friday Five Getting to Know You Random Revelations with Rev Gals Blog Pals 5/11

Here's our Friday Play from Revkjarla at
Hi there~~
Happy Friday to all of you.
Today's Friday Five has no theme, other than randomness.
That's o.k., right?
So, just to get to know each other a little bit (even more) here is the meme:

1.  What is the first thing that comes to your mind (right now) that you want to share about yourself.

I am extremely stunned with this unexpected health complication of
Bell's Palsy that appeared upon waking
Monday morning!

2.  What is your favorite piece of jewelry or accessory? Why?

a gorgeous vintage double strand bracelet of pink glass & crystal beads ..
b/c of  its beauty in design, colour, delicacy, femininity

3.  If you could have a starring role in a T.V. show/movie/series,

which one would it be, and what would your character be like?

oooo~ fun!  for me it would be Jane Austen's 'Persuasion'
I would be Anne, the longsuffering protagonist, who has gained
strength and courage in her maturing to the point of
being able to stand up against the naysayers that
interfered, misguided and earlier prevented
the lifelong love intended for her.

4.  What is one thing you will eat this weekend?

fruit!  but with difficulty as 1/2 my face is immobile
with this crazy condition!

& drinking is only with a straw - yikes!
prayers please?!  thanks !

5.  How do you waste time? (If you do, that is...)

a bit of tv or a novel of my own choice that's
not on some review requirement list!

Thanks Revkjarla ~ I did
Have Fun!

Any random revelations that we'd love to learn about you?

Celebrating JA's Anne Elliot's August 9th BirthDay !

it's true!
today is my fave Jane Austen character,
Anne Elliot's BirthDay!
224th to be exact !

born on August 9th, 1787
as described in the opening of my fave Jane Austen book,
"Persuasion"

sounds like enough cause for a celebration to me!
what are your feelings on the matter?
enough reason for some cake?
considering her elder sister, Elizabeth, and  father, Sir Walter Elliot's,
disregard of her,
it's likely her birthdays went uncelebrated after the passing of her mother.
maybe we can fill that gap?

shall we enjoy our celebration at Anne's ancestral home
Kellynch Hall?

i'm thinking
we might enjoy an afternoon stroll through the grounds
then head indoors for generous servings
of some deliteful confection such as
this typical homey but delish plum sponge -
from fruit in season and readily available ~

or perhaps, with cook's favour,
this gorgeous Victorian sponge
of course, with a pot of tea !?...

from a  Jane Austen -- letter of June 15, 1808
"You know how interesting the purchase of a sponge-cake is to me."

then if you have time,
i'd love to watch the Persuasion movie adaptation if you'd care to join me?
1995 version with Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds
my fave... which is yours?

taking time out for a full celebration of all things Anne !

Captain Wentworth with our lovely Anne ~

feeling relaxed and refreshed?
great!!

interested in finding out which JA character you are?

Take the Quiz here!

thank you for joining me in honouring the lovely woman
of Jane's creation,
Anne Elliot !

much ado about Jane at Meredith's month long

winter on the way ...

Winter's On the Way Friday Five from RevGal Blog ~
posted by Singing Owl..

The picture is of my [Singing Owl] back deck after the first heavy snow last winter. I am looking at the weather forecast with a sigh of resignation. You see, our glorious unseasonable stretch of sunny days is ending and rain mixed with snow is in the forecast. The weather guy actually said, "This is probably the last nice day till spring, folks..." So, I am trying to plan ahead. Help me out, please. When it is cold outside:
1. What is your favorite movie for watching when curled up under a wooly blanket?  'French Kiss' romantic comedy with Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline..

or- Jane Austen's 'Persuasion'.  i have so many faves - all listed in my profile for more suggestions :)

2. Likewise, what book?  any Agatha Christie.  love to keep her books of short stories on hand for when i don't have time for the full length read..
3. What foods do you tend to cook/eat when it gets cold? meatloaf, stew, homemade soups, slowcooker meals..
4. What do you like to do if you get a "snow day" (or if you don't get snow days, what if you did)? your suggestions as above! the full length agathas like poirot or miss marple, stack the movies for a jane austen marathon, add a fireplace, hot drinks, chocolate something, quilt and pillows & it's all good! ..
5. Do you like winter sports or outdoor activities, or are you more likely to be inside playing a board game? Do you have a favorite (indoors or out)?  do like slow walking in softly falling snow [meaning temperature is tolerable!] otherwise happy to be indoors viewing the beauty :) outdoor temps usually too extreme here for me to like outdoors.  i do like snowshoeing.  'when i was young', i used to share with my brother our own snowmobile & rode daily~  fave indoor game?  kings in the corner cards, scrabble, monopoly, uno, skip bo.
great play Singing Owl!  thanks for the challenge and the share.  look forward to reading yours ..
