BOOK BEGINNINGS: WRITING TO WAKE THE SOUL by KAREN HERING 20.5.16

FRIDAY'S  BOOK BEGINNINGS

This Week?
~
Publisher:  Atria Books / Simon Schuster
Published: November 2013
~
Following host Gilion's prompt at Rose City Reader,
here's the beginning to WRITING TO WAKE THE SOUL by Karen Hering
~

What
  Is the
                    Root of all these
     Words?
                   One thing: love.
                                    --Hafiz
"The human gift of language is born of the desire to connect, to share our experience with each other. Our words are bridges built between one person and the next while also crossing time, from the moment they are written down to the moment they are lifted from the page by a reader."

*
The end of the above sentence really captures my imagination,
as does the book's title.
I anticipate a great long weekend of reading
with this book a prime part.
Further to anyone with interest, an extended excerpt posted HERE
and a shorter post , interestingly, on Beginnings HERE

Karen Hering's back cover quote I find inspiring ~

"Begin writing whenever you are ready and
follow wherever it leads."

*

Have a great weekend!
and be sure to check out all the Friday Book Beginnings
HERE
You may just find another book to add to your shelves!

Five Minute Friday: Writing: AFRAID

Our Invitation From Lisa Jo ~
Friday, time to crack open the chocolate ice cream and
unscripted version of beautiful you!
Got five minutes? Let’s write. Let’s finger paint with words –>{click to tweet}.
Let’s just write and not worry if it’s just right or not. Here’s how to play along:
1. Write for 5 minutes flat for pure unedited love of the written word.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in
{you can grab the button code in my blog footer}
3. Go leave some comment props for the five minute artist who linked up before you
{and if you love us, consider turning off word verification for the day
to make it easier for folks to say hello}
It’s a great way to catch your breath at the end of a long week.
OK, are you ready? Give me your best five minutes for the prompt:

Afraid

GO
I couldn't believe how afraid I must have been
without my own awareness
until I was lying prone in that digital imaging capsule
with the techno pop sounds pounding
through the ear plugs
I'd been provided for the inevitable.
What the techies knew that I didn't.My body so tense my feet were cramped
into some strange position I
 had to hold
because of the caution to not move.
To not move for twenty minutes.
Afraid.
Until I realized I was not alone.
That God had gone here before me.
Had vanguarded my way.And I could breath.  I could relax. And I could release myself from being 'afraid' ...

Now it's your turn !
Use the link above to add your 5 minutes when you're ready.
Looking forward to your comments below as well!
HapPy Friday !

Five Minute Friday/ Pink Saturday 'STAY' 11/16-17

Five Minute Friday: STAY

Here's the scoop:
set your timer, clear your head,
for five minutes of free writing without worrying about
getting it right.
1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it,
you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously.
That is, like, the rule.
And the fun. And the heart of this community.
.
Oh and Ahem, if you would take pity and turn off comment verification,
it would make leaving some love on your post that much easier for folks!
OK, are you ready? Please give us your best five minutes on:::

Stay…

choosing to post the lovely creativity of my cousin, Cindy,
whose version of 'STAY' is what instantly popped into my mind..

Dream Big ! It's Monday 5/27 What Am I Reading?

Joining with the rest of the  readers at Sheila's Book Journey
sharing this week's reads ~

continuing my reading along with Sheila
in prep for The Secret Garden Party on Thursday!
I'll be posting my review of the book & then partying with the others !!

also learning about prayer unlike what i've known before ~
much more relational than 'Help' i need a lifesaver !!
does an amazing job of relating what we currently do as 'prayer'
vs what God is actually wanting in the life situations we're struggling with~
and
the intended results of Growth and Change as we mature in our Faith...
"We can thank God first, in every situation, because every problem
we encounter comes with His provision attached to it.
God has a plan and a purpose for us;
He says that everything works together for those who love Him.
That promise is a deep well of provision for us.
Whatever calamity life throws at us, God can use it for our blessing and our benefit....

By entering His presence in the midst of our problem,
He can act on our behalf.
Our heart may be all over the place,
but there is a central place of truth where we gather -
in the goodness of God." ...

{"Gratitude is the bedrock of our life and worship"}

"We need to plan to enter God's presence with our thanksgiving
not our prayer...
Psalm 95.2
...once we've come into His presence,
we need to be still and listen to the heart of God."
~ Graham Cooke

Five Minute Friday Writing on 'Brave" 3/16

On Fridays,

Around here we write for five minutes flat on Fridays.
We finger paint with words. We try to remember what it was like to just write without worrying if it’s just right or not.
Where your words are welcome, just as they are! (<–-Tweet this!)
1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. Meet & encourage someone who linked up before you.
OK, are you ready? Give us your best five minutes on:
:Brave…

just the word makes me cringe ~what do i know about being brave,
yet how many times have i had to step into those oversized shoes...
best thought of when not in situations
requiring the need for.
then again, when you need to be brave,
you don't have time to think about what you need to be being!
sometimes too, it's others who point out bravery
when all i've seen was doing what i was called to do.

these last few months of standing for justice for the elderly and disabled;
advocating for them in the larger picture,
has been a time i am needing to be brave.
but i haven't seen that til well into the 'being'!

there's my 5 Minutes on Friday ~
what is your response?
let everyone know what 'brave' is to you by linking here

5 Minute Friday: Beauty

from the beautiful Gypsy Mama
comes today's word prompt ~
beauty...

This week we’ve been talking about how to weed out the lie that you are not beautiful
We’ve been talking about the surprising place that ugly sometimes comes from.
And we agreed to go on a beauty hunt together this week.

To write down beauty everywhere we found it in ourselves
laundry folded in love, beds made, dinners cooked, lattes picked up for self or another.
The red high heels,
the swimsuit that shows off the wonder that your body has delivered,
the family legacy of freckles.
Even the tired eyes from being up all night with sick kids.
We agreed to write it down – write down the only definition of beauty that matters:
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:14.

Want to just write without worrying if it’s just right or not. Want to take five minutes with me and share what you found?

Here’s how we do it:

1. Write for 5 minutes flat with no editing, tweaking or self critiquing.

2. Link back at Gypsy Mama and invite others to join in.
3. Go and tell the person who linked up before you
what their words meant to you.
Every writer longs to feel heard.
OK, are you ready? Give me your best five minutes for the prompt:
Go ...

Five Minute Friday . . .

a FuN friday meme from The Gypsy Mama.  like to write?  feel free to join us...
I like chocolate. I like words.
And I never tell my chocolate what’s wrong with it, how it could have been improved, and how disappointed I am in it before I eat it.
I. Just. Eat. It.
That’s what we do around here on Fridays. We eat words. Straight up. Without second guessing, editing, or criticizing them. We simply savour all their deliciousness. For a full five minutes. You should try it. It’s a calorie-rich experience sans calories.
Wanna just write? Without wondering if it’s just right?
  1. Indulge in five rich, delicious minutes of pure writing.
  2. Tell your readers you’re linking up here and invite them to dig in too.
  3. And most importantly, go visit, read, and compliment the five minute chef who served something up right before you.
OK, are you ready? Give your best five minutes for the prompt:
Every Day...
is a new beginning.
fresh.  unclaimmed territory.  expansive horizon.  ready to be claimed, explored, discovered, valued, envisioned.
what i do with it is my response.  my response to a gift freely given.  voluntarily squandered or voluntarily invested.  my  choice.
how to begin?  prayer.  an offering.  offering the day back to the Giver.  a request.  requesting the guidance, the establishment of thought required to enjoy and employ this day wisely.  commitment of the day to its Creator.  commmitment of myself to Creator's service, enjoyment and delight.  that i might be who God has designed and desires me to be.  that i might do as God wills.
STOP.

OK, your turn – show us what you’ve got.
{
just click here to come over and play along.}
you'll find a
linky list with more great 'Every Day...' posts.

Charlotte and Ginger  also have more spiritually themed posts on their linky at Spiritual Sundays.
